STATE REPRESENTATIVE KEVIN BACON Kevin Bacon grew up in Defiance, Ohio where he graduated from Defiance City Schools prior to earning his B.A. degree from Miami University. While attending Miami University Kevin played football, earned the Miami Citizens award and earned the Miami Athletic-Scholar citation. He was also selected to serve as an Associate Justice on Miami University’s prestigious Student Court. Kevin enrolled in Capital Law School in 1995 and graduated in 1998. While attending law school he was student body president and was presented with the Dean’s Award and Ron Friedman Award. Upon getting married Kevin and his wife Melissa moved to the Village of Minerva Park, where they reside today, with their three daughters Rebecca, Emma and Kathryn. Kevin worked for the City of Lancaster prosecuting drunk drivers, domestic violence offenses, drug offenses and theft offenses. Kevin then went on to work as an Enforcement Attorney for the Ohio Department Commerce where he protected our society from white collar criminals. Kevin was first sworn in as a Blendon Township Trustee in January 2002, just months after the 9-11 World Trade Center tragedies. Passionate about safety, Kevin led an effort to strengthen an understaffed fire fighting force and to replace an inadequate fire station. He garnered the support of Blendon Township, and in a dual effort with the City of Westerville, succeeded in adding eighteen firefighters to protect our neighborhoods. In addition, a new firehouse was built and a new fire engine purchased. This happened as collaboration with State Representative Larry Flowers to pass legislation permitting township fire districts to issue bonds. Kevin drafted the language that exists as law today in the Ohio Revised Code. Kevin Bacon, a Republican, successfully ran for State Representative in 2006 and commenced his first term on January 1st, 2007. He represents House District 21 which is located in Northern Franklin County including parts of Columbus, The Village of Minerva Park, Perry Township, Sharon Township and Worthington. The Columbus portion of District 21 includes much of Northland and all of Olde Sawmill. In addition to being a legislator, husband and father, Kevin works as an attorney for Farmers Insurance. As a legislator he is serving on the following legislative committees: Finance and Appropriations Committee – and the Higher Education Subcommittee; the Public Utilities; the Judiciary Committee; and the Financial Institutions, Real Estate & Securities Committee. While Kevin’s platform addresses many issues, he is focusing on job creation & economic growth, education and affordability of health insurance. Moreover, he is also diligently working to help those with disabilities, especially autism, and recently introduced House Bill 128 to address childhood autism screening. Kevin believes that rebuilding our economy begins right here at home by cutting taxes for working families, eliminating government red tape and putting an end to frivolous lawsuits that cost jobs and drive up the costs of health care. Kevin is also determined to lead an effort to invest in new high-tech, high-paying jobs for central Ohio. As a husband and father, Kevin understands the importance of a quality education. As your State Representative Kevin is working to make sure our schools receive their fair share of the state budget and to take the burden off local property tax payers and seniors. In addition, as a member of the Higher Education subcommittee he is fighting for common sense reforms to control tuition costs and make college more affordable. Kevin is active in the Capital Law School Alumni Board, Dublin-Worthington Rotary Club, Worthington Chamber of Commerce and Columbus Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the Ohio Bar Association, Columbus Bar Association and OACTA. He is a supporter of charities and community programs such as the Westerville Special Needs Early Educational Program and the Children’s Cancer Society.
